Christmas is that time of year when the expectations of children are raised, and there is much pressure on families to be able to celebrate the special occasion.
The Lions Food Appeal, which is a national event, seeks to help the less well off to cope, more especially at this most difficult of recessionary times.
Lion Mike Walsh led the campaign for Kinsale Lions, and it required the input of all of the club members who donate their time willingly for the cause.
Over the weekend of 9th/10th. of December, Lions Club members manned donation baskets and collection boxes in local shops Supervalu and Londis, to which their customers generously contributed food items and cash. The cooperation of the shop owners is much appreciated as they give space so readily during their very busy season.
Food and cash in excess of €3500 in value were collected, and redistributed before Christmas by the hard working local Conference of St. Vincent de Paul.
