The Christmas Day Charity Swim, orgaised annually by Kinsale Lions Club, was a very successful and enjoyable event.
Almost fifty hardy swimmers took the plunge to swim from Kinsale Yacht Club Marina to the Pier Head where they were wecomed by cups of warming mulled wine. About five hundred spectators urged them on, the adults partaking of the seasonal beverage, while there was hot chocolate for the younger people.
It is the occasion where so many emigrants from Kinsale come home to be with their families for the Christmas holiday, and to meet old friends. A phalanx of Lions were on hand with collection buckets to meet the needs of those in the local community who are experiencing tough times. With the generous support of those present, a sum of over €3000 was raised.
Thanks to Lions Mervyn Greene and Gary Horgan who organised the event.
